Local Lib Dems see membership surge
By Tom Stevenson
North East Essex Lib Dems have seen our membership soar since the EU referendum, with new members supporting our call for an open, tolerant and united Britain.
More than half of our members in North East Essex have joined since the General Election last year. Many have already become involved in campaigning for a more liberal future, both locally and nationally.
Tom Stevenson, who joined North East Essex Lib Dems last year and is now our secretary, said "It's brilliant to see so that many people across our area have responded to our call for a better Britain. I'm looking forward to working with them to help offer an alternative future for both Essex and our country as a whole."
Across the country, membership now stands at 80,000 - 20,000 of whom joined after the referendum. Since May last year, national membership has nearly doubled. Membership is now the highest it has been for over a decade - and still growing!
Sal Brinton, Party President, told the Mirror "With Labour throwing in the towel and the Tories veering towards a hard Brexit, we are now the UK's only truly pro-European party."
North East Essex Lib Dems are now looking to take this momentum with us as we prepare for the Essex County Council elections next year.
